Amazon’s influence on Whole Foods has begun.

Amazon’s overall headcount declined by 2,900 people to 563,100 full- and part-time employees in the first quarter, according to new data released by the company as part of its earnings report Thursday.

Amazon’s streaming numbers still pale in comparison to TV viewership, but the growth is promising for the Seattle tech giant, which continues investing heavily in the sports media world. Last month it joined the new ownership group of the YES Network, the most-watched regional sports network that broadcasts games for the Yankees (MLB), Brooklyn Nets (NBA), New York City FC (MLS) and the New York Liberty (WNBA).

Amazon’s pioneering cloud business gave the company an early lead in an emerging and lucrative industry but competition is heating up between Amazon Web Services and newer entrants, like Microsoft and Google, particularly when it comes to talent.

Amazon’s cloud business has 47.8 percent of the global market for public cloud Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), the fundamental building blocks of computing, storage and networking in the cloud. That’s about twice the combined market share of its closest two competitors, Microsoft and Alibaba, according to Gartner research.
